A striking red/bronze Tillandsia neglecta, Brazilian air plant. With beautiful delicate mauve flowers, the foliage holds its rich red tones beautifully.
Native to Rio de Janeiro's rocky cliffs, this saxicolous species loves bright, indirect light and dry conditions. Short, stiff, curved foliage creates an architectural look. Produces pink flowers in July (winter) and multiplies quickly via pups along the stem.
Place near a bright window with good airflow. Outdoors: Thrives under bright, indirect light—under trees, verandahs, decks, or shadehouses work perfectly. Frost-hardy but needs protection from freezing. Mount on non-water-retaining surfaces like timber or cork bark using wire, fishing line, or silicone adhesive. Never cover the base with moss.
Hot spots: every 2–3 days. Cool, humid spots: once weekly. Mist or dunk for 10–20 minutes, then shake dry. Must dry completely between waterings—never let water pool at the base or it will rot.
