Tillandsia funckiana Air Plant Native to Venezuela and Colombia, this fast-growing air plant features long, twisting stems with needle-like leaves. Expect bright scarlet-red flowers in summer (December–January) and quick formation of hanging clumps.
Position indoors near a bright window with good airflow, or outdoors in dappled light under trees, verandahs, or shadehouses. Thrives in well-ventilated spots. Can tolerate cool temperatures but needs frost protection. Mount on cork bark, timber, or similar non-water-retaining surfaces using wire, fishing line, or adhesive. Never cover the base with moss.
Watering: Water every 2–3 days in warm conditions, or once weekly in cool, humid spots. Mist or fully submerge for 10–20 minutes, then shake off excess. Let dry completely between waterings. Keep water away from the base to prevent rot.
