Tillandsia subsecundifolia (formerly Tillandsia recurvifolia var. subsecundifolia) is a Brazilian native with silvery, velvety foliage that thrives in bright, dry conditions. After flowering, it produces a stunning bright orange inflorescence with 4–6 white petals and quickly forms large clumps via offsets.

Grow outdoors under trees, on verandahs, decks, or in shadehouses, not indoors. This xeric species needs bright light, excellent airflow, and infrequent watering. Mount or suspend on non-water-retaining substrates like timber or cork bark using wire, fishing line, or silicone adhesive. Avoid covering the base with moss. Tolerates cool temperatures but must be protected from frost.

In hot positions, water every 2–3 days. In cooler, humid spots, once weekly is often enough. Mist, dunk for 10–20 minutes, or use a hose outdoors. Always shake off excess water and let the plant dry completely between waterings. Never allow water to pool at the base, this causes rot.
